110930_muslimtravel Wherever you go, there are different customs and traditions that you'll have to adapt to. Even if these traditions are in contrast to your own beliefs, the point is that you're a visitor to someone else's home, so the onus is on you to know and respect the rules. Many countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East are predominantly Muslim, while other areas have large Muslim communities. Before you head out, it's a good idea to brush up on the way of life in these areas as a matter of respect. Here are a few considerations to get you started.

The reality is, from smaller Canadian cities like Thunder Bay, it's *really* rare to see great deals, to *anywhere*.  So I'm always pleased when something does come up for them.

There seems to be a few really cheap fares on Westjet to Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) around late November and early December.

Dv370047b My longest flight; Vancouver to Sydney through Beijing, was a total of 29 hours. We were in the plane for 27 of those hours. Even thinking about it today makes the hair on my neck stand up. Confined, sore, tired, dehydrated and bored…it felt like torture. In retrospect, it could have been a lot more comfortable if I would have followed a few really simple guidelines.

Spirit Airlines often has cheap flights to Florida, but even for them this is unusually cheap.

They've dropped one of their very last minute flights from Plattsburgh to Fort Lauderdale down to $57 roundtrip after all taxes.

Aerosvit Airlines just dropped some of their prices to Moscow, Russia down to ridiculous levels. They're currently 65% cheaper than the next cheapest flights to Moscow!

It looks to be select dates in October, and all Sunday/Tuesday flights in November and the first week of December.

Everyone knows that Europe is expensive. With €13 museum tickets, €20 meals and €60 train rides, the credit card bill can start hacking up pretty fast. You’ve ditched the hotels for hostels, you’ve decided to take the bus over trains and you are eating a picnic lunch every day, but how else can you cut your Euro trips costs?

122130522 Have you ever considered camping in Europe? It’s not an alien idea especially to a lot of European families who camp all-year-round in campsites around continental Europe. In fact, there are more camping facilities located close to major cities in Europe than in North America. Famous European festivals like Oktoberfest, La Tomatina and running of the bulls, rely on camping as primary accommodation to house the large crowd of tourists.

I just got back from a summer of camping in Europe, sleeping in the lap of nature (but only a 20-minute public-transit ride away from major city hubs) and saving some precious pennies (which I later used for souvenirs, of course!)

110923_websitesWhen you're travelling, and especially when you're only visiting a new place for a short time, it can be difficult to get to the real core of a place without first wading through all the tourist attractions and traveller services. You don't have to rely on guidebooks and tourist information centres to get to the goods, though, and there are websites that specialize in connecting travellers with local experiences -- the kinds of things you'd otherwise have to move to a place to discover on your own. Read on for some of the top picks.

Lyon, France From London to New York City, some the most popular cities in the world are, unfortunately, also some of the priciest and are often overrun with tourists during peak travel times. Here are a few alternatives to the world’s first-class cities where you can enjoy a similar experience without having to rub elbows with other tourists, not to mention save a few bucks!

1) Paris / Lyon

There is truly no city in the world as memorable as Paris but it’s easy to get lost. Instead, hop on the TGV super train for a two-hour train ride south to Lyon. Located at the convergence of the Saone and Rhone rivers, Lyon offers picturesque bridges, a towering white Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière that is equally, if not more impressive than Paris’ Notre Dame and an old town with cobblestone squares. Last but not least, Lyon is also often noted to have better food than Paris!

You may remember that back around Labour Day there were some ridiculously cheap flights to Los Cabos, Mexico.

Well it looks like AirCanadaVacations has dropped another one, for anyone that can leave last minute.
